A female sea lion pup (see video) is adjusting well after her June 13 birth and has taken to following her mother, Luci, into the pool at Northern Shores. The still unnamed pup has been nursing well and has been vocalizing and swimming briefly, according to zookeepers. The pup's father, Nick, was rescued by the Pacific Marine Mammal Center in Laguna Beach, Calif., after being orphaned as a newborn on a rock with his umbilical cord still attached. Because he was hand-raised from infancy and relied on humans for his food Nick was not a candidate for release back into the wild. He has been at Denver Zoo since 2008. Luci was born at Sea World in Orlando, Fla., in 2001 and came to Denver Zoo two years later. This is her first baby.
