Spiffy

Dakota

Advertise | AdChoices

Here are the hairy members of the family.  I like them the best sometimes!

Dakota came into our lives in October of 2011 as an 8-week-old puppy and has been with us ever since.  A friend of my son's brought her over and told us it was our house or the shelter, so guess where she went?

I picked Spiffy out a shelter and he was my Mother's Day present in 2007.  He is an 8-year-old male.  He and the dog spar often!

    That is so cute, "Furamily"..

    They both look quite contented..

Dakota is about 6 mos old? Is she a smaller doggie? Do you know the breed? She and Spiffy are sure lucky..

Thanks, Piletre! Dakota is right at 6 months old and she is an Australian Cattle Dog/Whippet mix. I had her DNA tested and that's what the results came out to be. She's about 35 pounds. I love them both very much!

Holly, that is sooo interesting about the DNA! I see the cattle dog in her but not so much the whippet.. Is it too nosy of me to ask the cost of doing the DNA and how and where you had it done?

Not at all. I had it done through the mail and it cost $70. Here is a link.

Thank you! I've always been curious about it. I know the breeds of Trav and Bubba, but just in case of a new doggie moving in with us. I would be nosy about the specific breed.

Holly, I've nothing to complain about presently. I'm well, keeping on top of the whole HMO debaucle (LOL...........kind of) and enjoying life.

Furamily...........there's definately something to naming a piece accurately!

Thanks, Shelby! Dakota is Australian Cattle Dog and Whippet. Whippets are known as "the poor man's greyhound" and she sure is built like a greyhound! Quick like one too. She is the baby of the family.

Thanks for the explain on the breed mix. I don't know much about breeds of dog, though I love them. But, we don't have the space for one, and I have a particular cat (a shy one) that would need to be hospitalized permanently if we tried integration of any new animal at present (:

So much so! I lost my beloved Copper on August 18th. Dakota came to us on October 8th. Look at that face and ask me how I could say "no"! I still grieve Copper, but not as much as I would if I didn't have Dakota!

It's a hoot! When the dog got here, the cat was bigger. Now the tables are turned, MRAHAWAHA! The cat gets up on his hind legs and boxes the dog, often biting her around the lips. They both seem to enjoy it!

I would never have guessed cattle dog -- I would have guessed part corgi by the ears on that little guy. The cat is very lovely -- I really like the top pic of Spiffy, with the unusual angle and closeup. Very nice.

Oh, and it is cool you coined a very apt new word for them: furamily. Hope it catches on.

Dakota is tied for fourth as the cutest dog I know. The cutest are my Bubba, Penelope and Super Cooper (it's not bragging when its fact) Of course there is a tie for fourth place with the millions of other dogs in the world as I can't remember? Very seeing a canine that I couldn't bring home with me
